A cracking half-century by Goa skipper Swapnil Asnodkar helped Goa beat Gujarat by four wickets in Rajkot on Saturday, but it was not enough to make the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Uttar Pradesh qualified from Group A on a better run rate.
Batting first, Gujarat made a formidable 180 for the loss of six wickets. They failed to defend the total as Asnodkar’s 28 ball-64 helped Goa to achieve the target in just 15 overs.
Priyank Panchal (47) and Rajdeep Darbar (43) laid the foundation for a big score and skipper Smit Patel smashed an unbeaten 50 off 31 balls with four fours and two sixes. For Goa, Amit Yadav took two wickets giving away 34 runs.
Asnodkar, despite losing his opening partner Sagun Kamat (2) kept the scoreboard moving with the help of Kinan Vaz (27), Yadav (28) and Rohit Asnodkar (29). The skipper’s blazing knock however went in vain.
For Gujarat, Kamlesh Thakore was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets giving away 35 runs.
