Kerala’s Sachin Baby played a captain’s knock of 75 off 46 balls to help his team post 186/5 before the bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict Manipur to 103/7 in Round 1 of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 Group A match at the Devineni Venkata Ramana Praneetha Ground, Mulapadu on Thursday.

After opting to bat first, Kerala were in all sorts of trouble losing opener KB Arun Karthick for 1, followed by the run out of experienced Rohan Prem for one off Yashpal Singh. Vishnu Vinod and Daryl Ferrario added 24 runs for the third wicket before Vinod was scalped for 34 by Kabrambam Meitei.

Baby then revived Kerala with a stand of 50 runs with Ferrrario (22) and 74 runs with Mohammed Azharuddeen (47) for the fifth wicket to push Kerala’s total to 186/5.

In reply, Manipur innings never got going with only opener Mayank Raghav (32*) and Yashpal Singh (40*) managing to add something substantial to the total. Every bowler used by Kerala returned a wicket with Rohan Prem proving to be the most economical, giving away seven runs in his three overs. Manipur completed their quota of 20 overs scoring 103/7, losing the match by 83 runs.

Brief Scores: Kerala 186/5 (Sachin Baby 75*; Kabrambam Meitei 2/25) beat Manipur 103/7 (Yashpal Singh 40*; Rohan Prem 1/7)
