Priyank Panchal scored 78 off 46 balls, Arzan Nagwaswalla scalped four wickets and Piyush Chawla scored a quickfire 41 not out off 13 balls as Gujarat beat Bihar by 83 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 clash in Surat on Wednesday. With the win over Bihar, Gujarat moved to the top spot in Group B while Bihar remained on the last spot.
Batting first, Gujarat lost skipper and wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel early. But Panchal and Dhruv Raval’s 70-run partnership for the second wicket set the tone of Gujarat’s innings as they went on to score 199 runs. While Panchal got out in the 17th over, Chawala and Axar Patel, who scored 29 off 15 balls, chipped in with quick runs in the Group B clash.
Bihar never really got going in the chase, after being reduced to 5/4 in 2.3 overs as Nagwaswalla dismissed Babul Kumar, Piyush Kumar Singh and Rahmat Ullah while Mahrour was out run-out. Asfan Khan was next to get out as Chawla dismissed him for 6 in the 8th over.
While Keshav Kumar, who top scored with 61 off 62 balls, and Ashutosh Aman added 59 runs together, it was too little too late as Bihar could not go past 116.
