Himachal Pradesh were bowled out for 97 in chase of 168 as Gujarat recorded their third straight win of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 in Surat on Sunday.
Barring Prashant Chopra who scored run-a-ball 35, none of Himachal batsmen failed to make any impact. The next best was 11 from his opening partner and captain Ankush Bains. The rest failed to touch scores in double figures.
Himachal lost Bains and Ankit Kaushik (1) inside the Powerplay overs and the template of their chase was set. They never recovered from the start as they failed to build partnerships.
Hemang Patel (3/14) and Hardik Patel (3/29) shared six wickets between them as Himachal innings folded in 15.1 overs.
Himachal opted to bowl and Ayush Jamwal struck with the second delivery of the match as he pinned opener Urvil Patel in front for a two-ball duck.
Dhruv Raval (71*) and captain Priyank Panchal (40) led the recovery from the early blow with a 74-run stand for the second wicket.
Gujarat lost Panchal and Hiten Mehra (2) in quick succession. Axar then joined Raval in taking the innings forward and together they added 68 runs before the former fell off the first delivery of 19th over.
Raval anchored the innings through seven fours and a six while Piyush Chawla played a handy cameo, scoring 20 off 9 with the help of two fours and a six to push the final total to 167/5.
Brief Scores: Gujarat 167/5 (Dhruv Raval 71*, Priyank Panchal 40; Mayank Dagar 1/20) beat Himachal Pradesh 97 (Prashant Chopra 35, Hemang Patel 3/14, Hardik Patel 3/29)
