Both the teams had similar traits in their first 3 games. South Africa Women started of their campaign with a defeat in the hands of Australia. This was followed by a huge victory over Ireland, in which they scored 156 runs before restricting their opponents for 89, winning the game by 67 runs. But their joy was short lived, as New Zealand women beat them comprehensively, chasing down a target of 100 with 33 balls remaining. This game ensured South Africa women are knocked out of the tournament.
Sri Lanka Women had a similar start to their tournament, as New Zealand chased down their target of 111 with 25 balls to spare in their first game. This was followed by a 14 run win over the hopeless Ireland in the second game. Their hopes for qualification for semi’s were put to bed when they took on Australia, who chased down their target of 124 with 14 balls to spare, beating them hands down.
