Kolkata: Bangladesh have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their World Twenty20 Super 10 group match which they lost to hosts India by a mere one run in Bengaluru. Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s team was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration during the match on Wednesday. In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount. As such, Mashrafe has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 per cent fines, a statement from the ICC said. For a captain to be suspended during an ICC event, he must commit two minor over-rate offences or one serious over rate offence during the event. Therefore, if Mashrafe is found guilty of one more minor over-rate offence during the ICC World Twenty20 while acting as captain, he will receive a one-match suspension during the event. Mashrafe pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing, the ICC said. The last-ball defeat to India in the thrilling World Twenty20 2016 encounter was nothing short of shocking, said a gutted Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who was at a loss to explain the chase that went haywire in the last three deliveries. Bangladesh lost by one run in the nerve-wrecking contest, which Mortaza’s men dominated for most part. “The loss was a shocking thing for all of us. Nobody wants to lose like this. It is hard to explain but it is quite disappointing,” Mortaza told reporters in the post-match press conference.
