Usman Khawaja and David Warner were dismissed early in Australia’s first innings against Pakistan in Group 2 match at Mohali on Friday. The wicket was taken by Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz who was recalled after being side-lined earlier in the tournament due to an injury. It was a timely breakthrough from Riaz as Khawaja once again looked dangerous. He had already smashed three boundaries and a six. He scored a quick 16-ball 21. Khawaja stepped aside to push it towards the covers but missed it and the yorker from Riaz smacked the batsman’s middle stump, leaving Australia at 21 for 1 after 3.4 overs. That dismissal brought in David Warner at the crease. Promoting Warner ahead of out-of-form Steven Smith was an intelligent decision from Australia. Warner is a good player of the new ball but it wasn’t this day as he only lasted six deliveries. While Warner tried to play it towards the off side, he got the top of middle stump hit. A cracker of 148.1 ks from Riaz did it the trick, a poor selection of shot from the explosive batsman.
Smith walked in next and has joined Finch at the middle. It is important for these to build up a big partnership in order to post a competitive total. Pakistan’s fielding has not been upto the amrk in this World T20 and this match is easily justifies that fact. Smith and Finch bagged four singles in Riaz’s second over. Mohammad Sami happened to be really slow while chasing the ball and in that span of time, the Australians managed to run four times. Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. They made two changes with bringing in Finch for Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood replaced John Hastings. On the other hand, Pakistan made one change, Riaz was back replacing Mohammad Irfan.
