With just four games left in the Super Eight stage, the current ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is rapidly coming to a conclusion.

There is still a chance for all eight teams to go to the semi-finals. As they compete for a spot in the knockout stages, the following are the scenarios for each team in Groups 1 and 2 of the Super Eight stage.

Super 8 Group 1
India, with four points and a net run rate of +2.425, is in a solid position. Their final Super Eight matchup versus Australia will determine their position in the standings and guarantee a trip to the semi-finals. But if they lose, Australia might pass them, or perhaps Afghanistan if they win their game against Bangladesh.

Australia’s unexpected loss against Afghanistan has left them with two points and a net rating of +0.223, putting them in a vulnerable situation. If they beat India, they should make it to the semi-finals; if they lose, Afghanistan or Bangladesh might replace them.

Afghanistan is still in contention for the semi-finals despite being on two points and having a net run rate of -0.650. They could survive if they defeat Bangladesh, especially if India defeats Australia earlier in the day, which would make their work simpler.

Bangladesh – Afghanistan’s victory over Australia keeps Bangladesh, with zero points and a net run rate of -2.489, in the hunt for a spot in the semi-finals. In order to increase their net run rate sufficiently to overcome both Australia and their Asian opponents, they must defeat Afghanistan and pray that India wins.

Super 8 Group 2
South Africa, with four points and a net run rate of +0.625, is in a good position. Even though they haven’t lost, they have an important game against the West Indies. They will go to the semi-finals if they win and top their group. A defeat, though, might jeopardize their prospects.

West Indies are in control of their destiny with two points and a net fun rating of +1.814. If they defeat South Africa, they advance to the semifinals. If they lost, they would have to hope that the USA beat England and that their net run rate remained higher.

England, with two points and a net run rate of +0.412, England must defeat the USA in order to advance to the semi-finals. Based on net run rate, a close victory over the West Indies combined with a narrow win might cause them to miss the semi-finals.
rate of net runoff.

USA needs an almost miraculous string of events to advance to the semi-finals with zero points and a net run rate of -2.908. To beat both sides’ net run rates, they need to thrash England handily and hope South Africa trounces the West Indies.
