Tamil Nadu gained three points by virtue of fisrt innings leads while Punjab pocketed one in a draw

A superb bowling effort by spinner B Indrajith, who scalped three wickets for 12 runs, denied Punjab a vital first innings lead against hosts Tamil Nadu in their Elite Group-C Under-19 cricket league match for the Cooch Behar Trophy.

 

Punjab, who resumed on 307 for six, could add just 19 runs before losing four wickets to be dismissed for 326 runs in their first innings in reply to Tamil Nadu’s 348 runs.

 

Though the match ended in a draw, Tamil Nadu gained three points by virtue of fisrt innings leads while Punjab pocket one.

 

The hosts in their second essay made 212 for two in 69 overs with opener Bharath Shankar striking his way to an elegant century (106 runs, 168b, 12×4, 1×6) and his fellow opener M Adityan scoring 51.

 

The duo put on 139 for the opening wicket in 42.1 overs.

 

R Nilesh Subramanian chipped in with an unbeaten 41 (5×4, 1×6).

 

For Punjab, Kanojia claimed two wickets for 70 runs.

 

Earlier in the day, Punjab’s overnight batsman Mohit Handa remained unbeaten with 49 runs (3×4, 2×6).

 

Tamil Nadu spinners Indrajith and R Vishnu claimed claimed four wickets apiece, giving away 20 and 60 runs respectively.(PTI)
