STAR Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of Asia Cup 2023 due to his back injury. He has also stepped down from his role as the Bangladesh ODI captain.
The former skipper returned from England after getting his back treated due to a disc problem, on Monday. He took multiple injections there as an immediate remedy to heal the damaged disc between L4 and L5.
Currently, Tamim is on complete rest and won’t be starting his rehab process before next week. However, despite the treatment Board has most probably decided to provide the player with enough rest for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
“If there is no pain, he should be able to start the rehabilitation after one week and he will increase the intensity of his workload slowly. He will understand where he (Tamim) stands when he gets closer to the high-intensity workload and see whether that pain is coming back or not,” said a BCB official following Tamim’s return to the nation.
Litton Das To Most Likely Replace Tamim Iqbal As New Skipper
Bangladesh Cricket Board will most likely to go with Litton Das as the option to lead the team in ODIs during Asia Cup 2023 in Tamim Iqbal’s absence. He has stepped up in Tamim’s absence on a few occasions, be it the recently concluded series with Afghanistan or the series against India last year.
After Tamim Iqbal announced his shortly lasted retirement recently during the series against Afghanistan. Litton Das led the side in the remaining matches.
However, Tamim reconsidered his decision about retirement after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina convinced him.
