Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian, who went unsold in this year’s IPL auction, has joined Punjab Kings as a net bowler midway through the ongoing season. The 26-year-old was spotted bowling to PBKS batters at the nets and chatting with spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi during the team’s training session ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
While Punjab Kings already have Yuzvendra Chahal as their primary spin option, they also have a solid spin department with Harpreet Brar and Praveen Dubey, both leg-spinners with similar techniques.
To add more variety to their preparation, especially with Kolkata Knight Riders relying on mystery spinners like Sunil Narine and an in-form Varun Chakravarthy, Kotian’s orthodox off-spin adds a new dimension to their net sessions.
Kotian, who played a crucial role in Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory this season, has consistently performed well on the domestic circuit.
Although he went unsold in the auction, Kotian’s inclusion as a net bowler by Punjab Kings highlights the growing trend of relying on domestic players for training squads as the tournament approaches its crucial stages.
It is believed that skipper Shreyas Iyer’s connection with Mumbai played a crucial role in Kotian’s entry into the PBKS setup. Having led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title in 2024, Iyer knows the value of a well-rounded team and understands the dynamics of the squad.
