After losing Dean Elgar early, South Africa’s Heino Kuhn showed good commitment as he paired up with Temba Bavuma to keep the innings going as the team went for tea on Day Two of the fourth Test against England. England, who put up 362 powered by Jonny Bairstow’s outstanding 99-run knock, had the perfect start to their bowling with James Anderson removing an in form Elgar for a 3-ball duck. Though Hashim Amla showed some resilience, he too was sent back post lunch while Kuhn and Bavuma built a balanced partnership. Bavuma remained unbeaten and helped South Africa put up 93 for 3 before tea.

Before South Africa could put up 50 runs on the board, Toby Roland-Jones removed Hashim Amla for 30. This is the third time he got Amla in the series. Not to forget, he also dismissed him in the only ODI he bowled against him. It was a very subtle dismissal, with Amla edging one to the wicketkeeper Bairstow. Post Amla’s departure, Bavuma paired up with Kuhn to build a stable partnership. Both majorly dealt in singles, focusing on spending more time at the crease. It was Moeen Ali who broke the partnership between Kuhn and Bavuma, sending the former back for 24. Kuhn, who did not look very comfortable at the crease, edged one to Ben Stokes at slip, who took a low catch.

As play resumes, Bavuma (30*) and skipper Faf du Plessis (6*) will bat.
