New York: Following a 7-wicket loss against India in the ICC T20 World Cup, USA’s stand-in captain Aaron Jones said if they had posted a total of 130 then it would be a tough target to chase for the ‘Men in Blue’. Arshdeep Singh’s magnificent bowling figures of 4/9 helped India in restricting USA to 110/8 in 20 overs.

Jones was pleased with his side’s bowling effort as they made India work really hard for every run. At one point, it even looked as if USA would cause a major upset when both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lost their wickets inside the first 3 overs and India slipped to 10/2. Both of India’s openers were removed by Saurabh Netravalkar. Then Ali Khan dismissed Rishabh Pant but unfortunately for USA, that would be the last wicket that India would lose.

Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube’s 72-run stand proved to be decisive as India reached the target in 18.2 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. Even though they lost, USA put up a great fight and took the match to the very end. All in all, it was a good performance by the Americans and their captain acknowledged that.

“10-15 runs short. If we got 130 then it would have been a tough total, that’s how it goes sometimes. The boys were very disciplined and really proud of the bowling unit,” Jones said in a post-match presentation.

Jones also mentioned that it is time to restructure and said they will hold a few meetings before taking on Ireland at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida on Friday.
