Sri Lanka managed to score 338 in their first innings against South Africa despite debutant Marchant de Lange’s seven wicket haul at Kingsmead on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka managed to score 338 in their first innings against South Africa despite debutant Marchant de Lange’s seven wicket haul at Kingsmead on Tuesday.
Thilan Samaraweera scored his 13th Test century, and his first against South Africa to guide the visitors to respectability.
The centurion was the last to depart, giving De Lange his seventh scalp, after scoring 102 runs and striking 11 fours.
Sri Lanka were reeling at 289 for seven and the duo of Samaraweera and Rangana Herath added another 46 runs for the eight wicket frustrating the Protean.
De Lange finished with seven for 81, the third best innings figures by a South African on debut — after Lance Klusener’s eight for 64 in 1996 against India in Calcutta and Alfie Hall’s seven for 63 against England in 1923.
He is the eighth bowler to take a five-wicket haul on debut this year.
Playing in his 50th Test, Dale Steyn failed to take a wicket in an innings for the first time since the Proteas faced Pakistan in Abu Dhabi more than a year ago.
