As Ashutosh Sharma caused carnage with an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls, helping Delhi Capitals secure a 1 one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants, skipper Rishabh Pant accepted that his team felt the pressure as they lost control of the match, but gave credit to Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam for turning the match.

As they were chasing 210 runs, DC had a terrible start as they witnessed a downfall in he batting lineup in the initial overs. When Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel were dismissed, the condition got worse. Required run rate was climbing while the wickets were falling and the match was looking like it would go out of hands of DC.

I think the runs were enough on the board. The batters batted really well. We may have lost the momentum in the middle but I think that was a pretty good score on this wicket. Definitely as a team we are looking to take positives from every match and learn from it. I think the more we get basics right the better we will get. We need to do the basics right more often,” Pant said after the match.

Ashutosh Sharma was the one who then took the command for the later phase of the match. He was on 20 off 20 balls, but increased his pace at the right time and scored 40 runs in the next 11 balls he faced. Vipraj Nigam was also crucial in this partnership, as he scored 39 runs off just 15 balls. Ashutosh kept attacking, and finished the match with a stunning six.

I think they had two good partnerships between Stubbsy, Ashutosh and… one more guy [Nigam] I think as the more the ball got older there was help for the bowlers but we could have done the basics more. We felt the pressure. It’s early in the tournament and we are settling in. Luck plays a big part, if it hadn’t hit his pad, it would have been a big chance for stumping,” Pant added.

LSG had earlier posted 209 runs for 8 on the board, which was led by Nicholas Pooran (75 off 30) and Mitchell March (72 off 36). At one point, LSG was looking like they would reach 250, but DC’s bowlers pulled them back and took some crucial wickets.
