Mohali: Oct 21, 2011

England bowler Tim Bresnan on Thursday was fined 7.5 percent of his match fee for showing dissent during the third One-Day International at Mohali.

The on-field umpires for the match, Billy Bowden and Sudhir Asnani along with the third umpire S. Ravi have laid charges on Bresnan, related to an incident at the end of the 18th over when he snatched his cap from Asnani after finishing the over

NDTV reported that Bresnan was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the code, which is “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”. This also includes snatching the cap from the umpire.

The England pacer pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Roshan Mahanama, the match referee said, “The umpires deserve the utmost respect not only because they do a difficult job in the middle but also because millions of budding and aspiring cricketers watch every move of the players.”

“This makes all the international cricketers more responsible and accountable for their actions, particularly in their dealings with the umpires in various match situations,” he added.
