Time spent with VVS Laxman at SRH helped me a lot: Hanuma Vihari
Vihari said that Laxman always allowed him to play his natural game at SRH and helped him understand the dynamics of the T20 game through his vital inputs
Hanuma Vihari, 24, who has recently been inducted into the 18-man squad for the last two Tests against England credits his stint with former India batsman and mentor VVS Laxman at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as an important factor that contributed to his growth.
Having hit 148 against South Africa A in Alur earlier this month, Vihari is in a good frame of mind. Crediting coach Rahul Dravid for his valuable advice he also revealed that VVS Laxman has also had a big influence in his career. Coming from Hyderabad, VVS Laxman has been an inspiration. He is a legend. I was fortunate to play a few games with him and it was very helpful for me to get his advice and motivation," Vihari contended.
"With SRH, he was our mentor and discussions centred around the dynamics of the T20 game. He always told me to trust my game, gave me a lot of freedom and be in a good space of mind, he reminisced about the help he got from the stylish former Hyderabad and India batsman.
Vihari talked about a host of other challenges and opportunities he has over the next year leading up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. At the moment, he hopes to make the opportunity he has got with the senior Test squad count.
So far in 63 first-class matches, Vihari has scored 5142 runs at an average of 59.79.
