Former West Indies pacer Tino Best hit back at England captain Eoin Morgan for his criticism of the West Indies Under-19 team after their controversial win over Zimbabwe in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2016. Morgan, who is currently captaining England against South Africa in a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, took to his Twitter account to describe the West Indian colts’ behaviour as “disgraceful”, adding that they should be embarrassed. Best however, lashed back by stating that everything that the West Indians did was disgraceful to people like Morgan, questioning the likelihood of the incident being equally controversial had it been the other way round.

West Indian pacer Keemo Paul ‘mankaded’ non-striker Richard Ngarava when the Zimbabweans needed just three to win with an over and a wicket left. The incident drew varying reactions from across the world, with several voices from within the cricket community questioning the ethics of the West Indians. West Indies as a result, managed to qualify for the next round with their narrow two-run victory, while Zimbabwe have been relegated to the Plate Championship.

While Best conveyed his thoughts and feelings to Morgan, he himself faced a bit of a reaction from former Zimbabwean wicketkeeper batsman Brendan Taylor. Best praised the West Indian Under-19 team for their “smart play”, which prompted Taylor reply with the following line: “Smart Tino? Well that clearly sums you up then mate.”

“Bro they are kids it’s not the spirit of the game we all know that but me sticking with laws of the game makes me a bad man,” Best wrote back.
