Chennai Super Gillies take on Ruby Kanchi Warriors in Match 12 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2016 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The Super Gillies are currently placed fourth in the table and two points – registering a win and a loss in their two games so far. Ruby Kanchi Warriors too have similar statistics, but the Super Gillies have a better run rate as a result the Kanchi Warriors are placed sixth in the table. This is a crucial match for both teams. A win for either team may take them into the top four. The super Gillies lost their opening match to Tuti Patriots by a whooping 45 runs, biut bounced back well in their second game to beat Karaikudi Kaalai by 67 runs after posting 195. Kanchi Warriors on the other hand won their first game through a super over, but succumbed to defeat in the second match at the hands of Dindugal Dragons by 48 runs. Warriors’ player M Shahrukh Khan shared his experience ahead of the match and also provided a sneak peek as to how his side plans to contain the batsmen. “It’s been good but we’re still expecting a larger crowd [in Chennai]. We want that pressure building on us as it will motivate us further!” he said, according to tnca.cricket.
“There’s no such plan. In the last game 160 was not a big score. Since both teams have lost one game each it proves that T20s are a roller-coaster ride! One match you’ll be on top and in the other you’ll be down. So you can’t think about it as it’s about how we come back and prepare,” he added.
From the opposition it was fast bowler Yo Mahesh, who said expressed his views about his team’s bowling attack. “I gave away a lot of runs in the first over of the last game, but then it happens in T20s. It’s just that you have to bounce back and I’m definitely looking forward to the next game,” said the Tamil Nadu pacer.
He also believes that the cricket in the TNPL has been high quality. “The standard is really good and high-quality cricket is being played. I see a lot of unknown names performing which is really good for Tamil Nadu. Also, the experienced players rubbing shoulders with the unknown guys is fantastic!”
