Amidst all the fanfare and excitement, Tamil Nadu Premier League opened up at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on August 24 the to witness its first match between Chepauk Super Gillies vs TUTI Patriots. The league had already created lot of buzz due to its promotional tactics all over the country which included the likes of Matthew Hayden coming in India for the promotions.  Also this tournament being the first of its kind had already got lot of attention from all over the country. The whole tournament is going to be of 8 teams while the format of the tournament remains same as off IPL.

This league has very important significance in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu cricket had seen some gloom days in the recent past. So having a league of this enigma will certainly give young talents from Tamil Nadu to rise up and show their talent on a wider perspective. Also these new players will be playing under the guidance of some of the established players in Indian cricket like Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay while some teams have coaches like Michael Bevan, Lance Klusener, Brett Lee.

So far, the first two days of this tournament has pulled massive crowd which is displaying the liking the local people have for this tournament.  Given the type of mentors the franchise have elected, this is going to be a fundamental league in helping local talent to come up and showcase their talent on a big and wider perspective. With the tournament already started and the first two match being a cracker, the same can be expected by the whole tournament. Established players will look to get their place back in the national squad while the newbie will look to come into the selectors eye to assure them of bright Indian future.

The first match was played between Chepauk Super Gillies vs TUTI Patriots saw perfect opening for such high octane league. TUTI Patriots won the first match quite comprehensively as Dinesh Karthik played a captains knock as he lead his to a comfortable victory. The second day saw VB Thiruvallur Veerans facing Karaikudi Kaalai. This match too turned out a ripper for the spectators as both teams played good game of cricket. This match saw Tamil Nadu Premier League’s first century as Baba Aparajit who is also the captain of VB Thiruvallur Veerans scored 118* of 63 balls to lead his side successfully chase 166.

The first two days have put up great matches, which has been like a fest for the spectators. This tournament is also living up to the expectations given the way TNPL was promoted.
