Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of Match 17 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2016 between VB Thiruvallur Veerans and Albert Tuti Patriots at Dindigul. The Veerans are flying high as they have secured six points from their four matches, with three wins under their belt. The Patriots on the other hand have some catching up to do as they have just two points from their four matches and currently lie in sixth position, having won just one match in the tournament so far. A win by a big margin could see Veerans go top of the TNPL 2016 table. The Patriots will do all they can to ensure that it does not happen. It was Abhinav Mukund, who led the Tuti Patriots in the previous match against Dindigul Dragons in the absence of Dinesh Karthik, who is currently participating in the Duleep Trophy at the moment. He will continue to lead the side today as well. The Patriots almost pulled off a stunning win in their previous match against the Dragons, but were denied after Dragons won the one over eliminator after the scores were level after two innings.

The Veerans won their previous match by a whopping 42-run margin against Ruby Kanchi Warriors after putting up 206 on the board. Baba Aparajith, the captain of the Veerans scored a magnificent 91 off 54 deliveries to put his side in a commanding position after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Their bowlers too did an excellent job, restricting Kanchi Warriors to just 164. Ramalingam Rohit and S Samuel were the pick of the bowlers, finishing with three wickets apiece.

The TNPL 2016 has been a wonderful tournament and with just 12 games to go, including this one for the group stages to end, we have reached the business end of the tournament. Every point from here on in is going to be crucial for the teams to finish in the top four of the tournament. The final will be played at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 18, after the the two semi-finals among the top four teams on September 17 and 18 respectively.

Dindugal Dragons and Lyca Kovai Kings are currently placed in the top two places in the table respectively. With each passing game, we could see a new team on top of the table every time. All teams will have to play at their best to make it to the knockout rounds from here on.
