New Zealand go to lunch on Day Four of the second Test against Pakistan at 97 for 1 at Seddon Park, Hamilton. New Zealand now lead Pakistan by 152 runs with nine wickets in hand. Tom Latham got to his fifty off the final ball of the session. He in fact smashed Mohammad Aamer for three boundaries in that over. Pakistan started off well with Aamer removing Jeet Raval for just 2. New Zealand got off the mark in the fifth over of the innings as Pakistan kept things extremely tight. Raval’s wicket brought skipper Kane Williamson to the crease to join Latham. Williamson looked busy right from the beginning, scoring runs at every single opportunity. But Pakistan’s four-pace attack, pulled things back and did not let New Zealand score freely. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Pakistan vs New Zealand, 2nd Test at Seddon Park, Hamilton
Latham and Williamson have put on 86 for the second wicket so far. They however had a scary moment. Looking for a quick single, Latham ran towards the danger end. Substitute fielder Yasir Shah collected the ball and hit the wickets. It was a close call, but Latham managed to survive by a TV frame. Despite that scare, the duo have stuck it out well and brought up their 50-run stand off 113 deliveries. They continued to respect the good deliveries and put away the lose deliveries. Rain has stayed away so far today, but may play a part going ahead in the day. In fact, it started to rain just before lunch was called.
New Zealand resumed Day Four at 0 for no loss after facing just one delivery yesterday, before rain started pouring. They have added 97 runs in the first session but more importantly, they have lost just one wicket. Both batsmen are looking set at the crease and will look to consolidate when play resumes after lunch. On Day Three, Pakistan were bowled out for 216, conceding a 55-run first innings lead. Babar Azam was left stranded on 90, while Sarfraz Ahmed and Sohail Khan scored 41 and 37 respectively. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, finishing with figures of 6 for 80.
