Darren Bravo scored 49-ball 44 to guide Trinidad & Tobago to their first win in the Champions League T20 qualifiers in Hyderabad on Monday. Chasing a modest score of 138, T&T scored 144 to register a comfortable win over Ruhuna Eleven .
Bravo smashed 13 off the 19 runs required in the 19th over to see the Caribbean team home with seven balls to spare.
T&T got off to a jittery start losing three wickets for 28 runs. Sherwin Ganga and Bravo added 63 runs for the sixth wicket to stabilise the T&T innings.
Janaka Gunaratne took two wickets for the Ruhuna Eleven.
Earlier, T&T bowlers restricted Ruhuna Eleven for 138.
Ruhuna captain Mahela Udawatte won the toss and chose to bat, but his decision back fired early on with the team from Sri Lanka losing three quick wickets in space of four overs.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Chandimal held fort at the other end to score a gritty half-century.
Chandimal and Janaka Gunaratne stitched a partnership of 67 runs to resurrect Ruhuna’s innings.
Once Chandimal departed, new batsman Kushal Janith Perera tried to boost the score only to fall in the 19th over. But the damage was done with Lendl Simmons conceding 19 runs in the penultimate over.
Three wickets in the final over saw Ruhuna finish below 150.
Ruhuna innings saw a total of five run-outs, most in the Champions League T20 tournament.
