Indian team began their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with the clash against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE. Najmul Hossain Shanto had won the toss and chose to bat first. Indian bowling attach began with spinners, which somewhat turned out productive.
The Bangladesh team was at 35/5 after 8 overs. However, during the 9th over, a shocking incident happened. Axar Patel was the bowler for that over, and had dismissed Tanzid Hasan on the second ball, followed by wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim in the third ball. It was a clean chance for a hat-trick when Axar bowled his fourth ball of the over.
The ball hit the outside edge off Jaker Ali, and went towards Rohit Sharma, who was positioned at the slip side. The ball looked like a clean catch, to which the Indian skipper fumbled and dropped it. This caused Axar Patel to miss out on a historic achievement of being the first Indian spinner to secure a hat-trick in history of Champions Trophy.
