Pakistan‘s batsman Umar Akmal is again in the news for wrong reasons. The temperamental player reportedly misbehaved with the excise police officers. According to the reports of Pakistani media, Akmal was stopped by the officers of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department in his hometown of Lahore. He was accused of driving a car bearing personalised number plate that was deemed illegal by the customs and excise officials.
Speaking on the issue, Excise department Region C director Muhammad Asif told geo.tv. “We don’t discriminate when it comes to stopping cars with fancy number plates. We have also stopped cars of many MPAs.” Asif added, “We respect him but he should set an example of how citizens should behave. Previously, he misbehaved with traffic police and now excise department.”
Meanwhile, Akmal claims that the police had allegedly misbehaved with him. “Police stopped me and used foul language and they told me I would have to remove the number plate myself.”
This is not the first time that news of Akmal’s misbehaviour has landed him into trouble. Earlier, he was charged for a brawl with the traffic police at Firdous. He was also involved in a fight with a gatekeeper at Gaddafi Stadium, who had denied him an entry in his car. He was even dropped from Pakistan’s tour of England following the complaints from former coach Waqar Younis.
Akmal’s eccentricity is not just limited with the constant brawls with law and order. Recently, he was trolled on social media for posting hilarious videos, where he is seen to be rapping with his friends. He had also challenged the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to score as many as runs down the order as he does. It seems Akmal never fails to amuse the media and public with his antics.
