Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop has heaped praise on the new crop of fast bowlers in India, saying that the likes of Varun Aaron, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav have instilled new belief in Indian cricket.

Both Ishant and Varun touched the 140 kmph mark on the opening day of the third and final Test match against the West Indies on a flat Wankhede Stadium pitch. Ishant looked in a fine rhythm but didn’t get any success.

Debutant Aaron even went on over 144 kmph mark during the day.

“It’s very good to see Indian bowlers bowling in excess of 140kmph ¦ that’s fascinating,” Bishop told MiD DAY.

“It’s good to see they (Yadav and Aaron) are ushering in a new sense of self-belief in Indian cricket. People can now see that Indians can produce fast bowlers and take it from me, fast bowlers are needed,” Bishop said.

The 44-year-old Windies pacer said coaches need to place a specific system to groom pacers as well.

“Coaching systems need to be altered. Instead of producing just batsmen, spinners and line-and-length bowlers, coaches should concentrate on grooming sheer fast bowlers to instill fear in the opposition,” he said.
