Former India opener Lalchand Rajput said that Unmukt Chand is a “big match player” and his innings against Australia in the final was one of the finest he had seen in a World Cup final after India won the Under-19 World Cup on Sunday.

“Unmukt Chand was always a big match player and he proved it again with his brilliant century. The way he played today was one of the finest innings I’ve seen anyone play in a World Cup final” Rajput said.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Lalchand Rajput wants the selectors to look at Chand as a “serious future prospect”.

“I had said earlier as well that Unmukt Chand is somebody who should be looked at seriously for the future,” he said.

Rajput also lauded the effort of the team in their victorious campaign.

“The victorious campaign was a result of a team effort. Everyone contributed to the team’s cause at some point or the other in the tournament,” Rajput said.

Beating Australia at home is not an easy thing. The team had a good blend of seamers, spinners and batsmen who performed well.” he added.

He had special words of praise for the wicket-keeper-batsman Smit Patel who scored an unbeaten 62 in the final.

“Smit Patel has looked promising in the tournament. It augurs well for India’s future,” he concluded.
