India captain Unmukt Chand slammed a century to bring his side closer to win in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup final against Australia. India were 205 for four from 46 overs, and need a further 21 runs to win.
Chand completed his century from 126 balls, clobbering five sixes and seven boundaries to lead India’s reply to Australia’s 225 for eight.
India were 135 for four from 35 overs in chase of 226 to win in ICC U 19 Cricket World Cup final against Australia on Sunday.
Earlier, Chand showed aggressive intent right from the start and leathered five boundaries and two sixes to complete his half-century from 66 balls.
But, India stumbled as they lost Baba Aparajith and Hanuma Vihari in quick succession.
Aparajith fell to Gurinder Sandhu for 33, which came from 38 balls and five boundaries.
Vihari struggled against Australian bowlers, and could manage only four runs off 12 balls he faced.
India slipped further when Vijay Zol fell to Joel Paris in the 24th over, for one.
This was after India were brought back into the game by Chand and Aparajith, who added 73 runs for the second wicket, after Prashant Chopra fell early.
Earlier in the first innings, Willliam Bosisto struck a fluent 87 not out off 120 balls as Australia recovered from a disastrous start to put up a challenging 226-run target against India.
