India’s under-19 captain Unmukt Chand exuded confidence that his team will do whatever it takes to win the quadrangular series.
“We are a promising side. The team has undergone two weeks rigorous training at Bangalore. We are confident of doing well in the tournament,” he said, addressing a press conference.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to lead the side,” the Delhi player said.
India, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Australia will clash for supremacy in the one-day series to be played from September 27 to October 9.
Indian U-19 coach Bharat Arun said the four-nation series will give a good exposure to players and help them to prepare for the World Cup next year.
“The team has a good combination of bowlers and batsmen,” said Arun, adding that BCCI is doing a good job in conducting junior cricket tournaments in the country.
Sri Lanka’s coach Mohamed Naveed also expressed confidence that his team will perform well in the tournament.
“The boys have undergone rigorous training for the last four months. Also, five of our players had participated in the international matches recently,” he said.
Manager of the West Indies team Courtney Walsh said, “Our main focus will be on the World Cup next year. This tournament will help us in our preparations.”
Captain of the Australian team Cameron Bancroft said the players are fully fit and raring to go.
Team Manager Brain McFadyen and Head Coach David Fitzgerald said they have a balanced team composition.
“Our strength is bowling, but the team also has good batsmen,” they said.
India will play against Australia at Golden Jubilee Port Stadium, while West Indies will clash with Sri Lanka at ACA-VDCA Stadium at Pothinamalliahpalem.(PTI)
