Usman Khawaja was rewarded for his brilliant recent form with a call-up to Australia’s Twenty20 International (T20I) side for the third and final match against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Australian T20I skipper Aaron Finch will miss out with an injury to his hamstring. The other change in the side was the out-of-touch Matthew Wade being dropped in favour of young and upcoming ‘keeper-batsman Cameron Bancroft. Khawaja, who scored a mammoth 345 runs in a mere four matches in Sydney Thunder’s Big Bash League (BBL) title victory, was expected to make it to the T20I team before this as well. According to cricket.com.au Australian physio Alex Kountouris said of Finch’s injury, “Aaron suffered the injury to his left hamstring while batting and although it is too early to confirm the full extent of the issue, we do know that it will prevent him playing in Sydney on Sunday. We believe it is not a recurrence of a previous injury he suffered to the same hamstring. Aaron will remain in Melbourne to undergo scans and we will be in a position to announce in due course the expected length of time he will be sidelined.”

Finch said, “It is hugely frustrating to suffer this injury. I am hoping it will not keep me out for a lengthy period of time, especially with an ICC World Twenty20 on the horizon, but I will be guided by the specialists.”

Australian team for 3rd T20I against India: Shane Watson, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Chris Lynn, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Scott Boland, Cameron Boyce, James Faulkner, Travis Head, Shaun Tait, Cameron Bancroft (wk), Andrew Tye.
