Varun Chakravarthy had a great match against England in the 1st T20I, and picked three wickets for 23 runs. Varun came out as one of the top spinners for India, and is almost a necessity for the Indian T20I side. Varun credited his growth to domestic cricket, and advised all spinners to play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), which he fells is on similar level with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Varun stated that SMAT matches are played on smaller grounds, which makes it challenging for spinners. As he gave his own example, Chakravarthy stated that the experience od playing in the SMAT will help the spinners without a doubt, and that experience will come in handy in the long term.

The level of cricket in (our) domestic (circuit) is very high, almost on a par with the IPL and international matches,” said Varun. “I would suggest everyone to go and play the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy because the matches are played on small grounds and it’s very challenging (for spinners). I find it very tough playing SMAT. It has definitely helped me get better, be on my toes and think correctly (in pressure situations),” Varun said at press conference ahead of the second T20I.
