Opting to bat, Vidarbha have kept every foot right since Day 1. After Wasim Jaffer broke plethora of records, now Vidarbha have added a milestone to their name. On Day 4, Vidarbha broke the 28-year old record of highest Irani Cup total. In 1990, Rest of India (ROI) had set up total of 737 against Bengal in Nagpur. On Saturday, 2018, Vidarbha went past that total and are still batting on.
Vidarbha have had a fantastic domestic season. They went on to win their maiden Ranji Trophy title thrashing Delhi. They had players like Faiz Fazal, Jaffer, Ganesh Satish, Rajneesh Gurbani, Sanjay Ramaswamy, Siddarth Kaul, Akshay Wakhare and likes who have rose as match-winners during this season.
Jaffer, especially has been in fine touch. He scored a record-breaking 286. In that process he went on accumulate 18,000 First-Class runs. Jaffer also went past Gundappa Viswanath’s record of most fifty-plus scores in Irani Cup.
Jaffer’s stay ended on Day 3 when he was bowled through the gate off a Kaul delivery. Continuing his momentum, Apoorv Wankhade slammed a fine century as well and is currently playing on 123*.
