Pakistan cricketers Ahmed Shehzad and Wahab Riaz were involved in an ugly on-field spat during the match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi during Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2016. Shehzad helped Quetta Gladiators get off to a great start, with his side reaching 40 by the fifth over. Riaz, bowling the fifth over, was hit for six off the first ball by Shehzad, but responded by coming back with a full length delivery that uprooted the stumps. Riaz celebrated aggressively, and Shehzad responded by waving his bat and saying something to Riaz. The fiery left-arm pacer did not take it lightly, and advanced on Shehzad. The two players bumped into each other but luckily before anything further happened they were separated. READ: Wahab Riaz’s painful birthday bash
Shehzad’s fellow Quetta Gladiators batsman Asad Shafiq pulled him away, as did Riaz’s Peshawar Zalmi teammates. Even as the duo were walking away from each other they continued to mouth off. Riaz’s captain Shahid Afridi then took him aside and had a few words, as Riaz eventually calmed down. Riaz finished with figures of 2 for 19 in three overs, but it was Afridi who stole the show. Afridi bowled a mind-numbing spell of 5 for 7 in 4 overs with one maiden, routing Quetta Gladiators for a mere 129 in 18 overs. Dawid Malan (60 not out) along with Mohammad Hafeez (36), and Kamran Akmal (17) ensured that there were no unpleasant surprises for Peshawar Zalmi, as they chased down the total by 8 wickets with 8 balls to spare. With this victory, Peshawar Zalmi are now the top-ranked side in PSL 2016. They usurped Quetta Gladiators as table-toppers. Both teams have won five and lost two matches out of seven.
