McGrath, with a cheeky smile pretended to roll the ball along the ground to Kyle Mills, prompting New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden to “red card” the Australian bowler; it was all a part of the sideshow. Australia made it a historic three out of three with a victory in that match. They had triumphed in both the inaugural Test (against England at Melbourne in 1877) and the inaugural one-day international (same ground, same opponents, 94 years later).
