From the start, this three-Test series between India and Sri Lanka has lots of emotions associated with it; at least in the first two games as Kumar Sangakkara bid farewell to international cricket. Until Day Four of the third Test, the series witnessed a lot of sportsman spirit. However, in the post Tea session on Monday, the scenario changed completely. It was the 76th over of India’s second innings. The last pair was at the crease. Ravichandran Ashwin, was fighting hard to take India’s lead close to 400 and bat Sri Lanka out of the match. At the other other end, Ishant Sharma was giving him company with his grafting batting skills. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs Sri Lanka, 3rd Test at Colombo (SSC)

The drama unfolded, when Ishant annoyingly ducked under a Dhammika Prasad bouncer and the Sri Lankan pacer lost his cool. It was long hot day at the office for Prasad, who bowled his heart out for his team. Prasad was not at all happy with the leave and his glare towards him was clearly suggesting that. Ishant left alone the next ball and smiled at the bowler as well. It was getting too much for Prasad. Both gave each other a long stare. The third ball was another bouncer, umpire Nigel Llong immediately called it a No ball. This time there was smile on Ishant’s face. Next ball Ishant pushed it towards point for a single and while running towards the other end he was banging himself on the helmet, looking at Prasad, as if he was asking him, “hit me on my head if you can!” From few glares and stares the incident slowly turned out to be a ugly spat. Ishant and Prasad were seen sharing heated arguments. From slips Dinesh Chandimal also joined them. He brushed Ishant on his shoulder even Ashwin looked annoyed with it. Finally two on-field umpires took control of the situation and had a word with captain Angelo Mathews. Prasad dismissed Ashwin and ended India’s innings on that eventful over and there came a bizarre scene. After the fall of India’s last wicket, Ishant sprinted towards the dressing room, to get changed and ready to return to bowl. But Dhammika decided to follow him in what looked like a full sprint. He was probably looking to continue their conversation but thanks to the Sri Lankan support stuffs, Prasad was pushed to his own dressing room.
