In every cricket fan’s life, there’s that one defining moment when he gets hooked on to the game, the moment that marks his never-ending fixation to the game. In a must watch video, some well known English personalities talk about their earliest cricket memories and reveal why they love cricket.
The video begins with English actor Jim Carter sharing how it was an obvious thing for him to follow cricket being from Yorkshire. It’s a well-known fact that the people from Yorkshire love their cricket. He loved it too, from a very young age. He remembers following the fortunes of his village team and entering the field as a kid during the breaks.
Actor and presenter Stephen Fry got introduced to cricket by his neighbour, who happened to be the MCC president. His love for the game blossomed when he started watching it on television. He had a particular liking for the English teams of the 70s, his favourite players being Tony Greig, Allan Knott and Derek Underwood. He also remembers watching a young Ian Botham swing the ball, like never before in a Test against Pakistan.
Hayley McQueen’s father was a footballer, but he always ensured that his children followed all the sports and appreciate cricket in particular. Her father loved the game more than football. Similarly, former footballer Dietmar Hamann fell for the strategies deployed in order to win a Test. He’s been following the game ever since.
Radio DJ Greg James shares how he started following cricket very young, probably as early as six or seven. He fondly remembers first watching a Test match live on BBC and following Graeme Hick more for his persona than his game. During his growing-up years too it was only cricket for him. Strictly cricket, no girls!
To veteran Radio DJ Bob Harris, first introduction to cricket was his father, who happened to be a good player. His father was a cricket nut, who would take his son to the stadiums to watch the county games. At home, he would spin-bowl to young Bob in the backyard and make corrections to his technique.
Don’t miss this video. It will definitely bring back your earliest cricket memories. Relive those memories and fall in love with the game all over again!
