Misbah-ul-Haq enjoyed a fairytale run at the Lord’s in the first Test against England. It was at Lord’s where Pakistan walked off in shame in 2010, thanks to the unwanted spot-fixing saga. At the home of cricket, last week, Misbah, 42, played his first Test in England and with a fine century, led his side to an inspiring win.
However, England turned things around in the next Test by posting 589 in the first innings at Old Trafford. Pakistan in reply managed only 198 and there was a phase when skipper Misbah held the fort at one end and tried hard to rescue his side. His 52 ensured Pakistan reach close to 200 but his stay surely was not easy. The English pacers tested him hard. In the 45th over of the innings, just a few balls before the lunch break, Chris Woakes bowled a lethal bouncer to the Pakistani skipper, who took his eyes off the ball and the leather thudded his helmet grill and broke the side protective piece into two. Misbah, a man known for his resolute defences was shaken for sure. ALSO READ: Misbah-ul-Haq and 5 other oldest cricketers to score Test centuries
Post the Phil Hughes tragedy, being hit on helmets are not fun sights anymore. English cricketer Ben stokes ran in to enquire if Misbah was fine. He was.
