Shane Watson announced his retirement from Test cricket for Australia on September 6, 2015. It was in a bid to prolong his Test career. He only played the first Ashes 2015 Test at Cardiff and was dropped for the rest of the matches. His retirement does not come as a shock to people following Australian cricket. Watson though missed a lot due to injuries  and will hope his career in limited-overs cricket has a longer shelf life. He ran in and bowled a fuller length ball down the leg side which was clipped away but Watson fell over in his follow through. It marked his career too. He could often bowl the match winning spells but had a lot of poor time in the middle as well. His struggle against leg before decisions especially in conditions favorable of the bowlers was a major thorn of his Test progress. His spell of 5 for 17 against South Africa is probably one of the best bowling spells by an Australian in South Africa. Watson, who is with the One-Day International (ODI) side now will be hopeful that his injury scare does not cost him a career. Watson will have scans to find out the extent of his calf injury that he had sustained during the second One Day International (ODI) against England at Lord’s on Saturday.
