New Delhi: Sports Minister Vijay Goel congratulated the Indian cricket team for dismantling England 4-0 in the five-match Test series that concluded in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. India registered victories in four consecutive matches following an opening draw to blank the visitors 4-0. It was also their biggest ever series triumph over England. Moreover, India’s unbeaten streak moved to 18 Tests, bettering the 17-match wins between September 1985 and March 1987. “In a message to the team Goel said India outclassed England in all departments of the game. He said all members of the team collectively and individually contributed in winning the five match series by 4-0,” a statement read.
Goel said the unbeaten record in the past 18 Tests speaks volumes about the bench strength of the Indian team and its character. He said that the performances of captain Virat Kohli, off-spinner Ravichandra Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Karun Nair in the series will be cherished by all cricket lovers for a long time. Nair entered into the history books as he slammed an unbeaten 303, becoming only the second Indian to register a triple century in Test cricket after Virender Sehwag, who has done it twice. India posted a historic win against England in the final Test of the Anthony de Mello Trophy.
