Punjab defeated Railways in the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy played at Motibaug Cricket Ground, Vadodara on Friday. Batting first, Railways posted a decent score of 242 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Anstup Majumdar steered the Railways innings with as he scored 76 runs off 100 balls. Mahes Rawat and Arindam Ghosh also made valuable contributions with the bat for the team. For Punjab, Baltej Singh picked up a five-for. Baltej bowled 45 dot balls in the 10 overs he bowled and gave away 33 runs in return. Sandeep Sharma was also useful with the ball as he picked two wickets but gave away 51 runs.
In chase, Punjab openers Amitoze Singh and Manan Vohra gave the team a good start. Vohra was the first one to be dismissed by Amit Mishra when the Punjab were at 57 after 11.2 overs. Amitoze Singh played a fluent knock of 43 runs before he was dismissed by Chanderpal Saini. Yuvraj Singh came good with the bat at Vadodra as he smacked 56 runs off 52 balls which included four big sixes. Gurkeerat Singh Mann finally took the team to victory as he reached yet another half-century.
