Bangalore: Medium-pacer Rush Kalaria claimed a four-wicket haul as Gujarat defeated Haryana by 28 runs in a Vijay Hazare Trophy Group B cricket match. Chasing a target of 260 after putting Gujarat into bat on winning the toss, Haryana were bowled out for 231 in 49.5 overs. Rujul Bhatt was the top-scorer for Gujarat with a 75-ball 55 in a consolidated effort by the team’s top-order before folding in 49.5 overs. For Gujarat, leg-spinner Amit Mishra picked up three wickets, while Ashish Hooda and Harshal Patel grabbed two apiece. Haryana’s chase went haywire after their top-order failed to convert starts into big innings, the only exception being Rahul Dagar (53) and Poonish Mehta (57). Apart from Kalaria’s 4/37, R P Singh and Jasprit Bumrah also snared two wickets each.
With this win Gujarat go up third in the table with 12 points over taking Kerala who are on eight points. Haryana after the loss are placed fourth in the table, had a perfect opportunity to go up the ranking having played one extra match than most of the teams. The next match for Gujarat would be against Kerala who are just below them, this surely will be fight for the number two spot in Group B. Haryana will next take on Railways, who are currently placed at number six with eight points. Both the matches will take place at 18th December.
