Vijay Zol, 17-year old batsman from Maharashtra made history on Friday when he scored unbeaten 451 runs against Assam in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match in Nashik.
An ecstatic Zol dedicated his innings to his role model Virender Sehwag who on Thursday scored a record-breaking 219 runs in the fourth ODI against West Indies.
He said, “Actually I did not see his (Sehwag) batting yesterday, but yes he is my role model and I dedicate this innings to him, my parents who sacrificed a lot to make me a cricketer, and my coach Raju Kane.”
Zol added that he was in good touch and wanted to make the most out of his form. He was quoted in Times of India as saying, “I planned my innings session by session. I tried to play every ball on merit and my strategy seemed to have come good,” he said. “I knew today was my day and seized the opportunity with both hands.”
The Anant Kanhere Maidan in Nashik has been a great launch pad for many of the Indian batting stars which include Rohit Sharma, Murlai Vijay, and Umesh Yadav.
Also with this innings, the youngster outdoes Yuvraj Singh’s 11-year-old record of 358 runs in the same tournament.
