R Vinay Kumar produced his best ODI bowling figures with a four-wicket haul as India restricted England to 237 all out in the second cricket one-dayer against India.

R Vinay Kumar produced his best ODI bowling figures with a four-wicket haul as India restricted England to 237 all out in the second cricket one-dayer against India.
Vinay got rid of both the England openers Alastair Cook and Craig Kieswetter for ducks within the first two overs. England could never really recover from the early jolts though there were some periods of English fightback at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.
The pacer had a point to prove in the ongoing series as critics questioned his selection after a poor ODI series in England. He kept on bowling good line throughout England’s innings after his team was asked to bowl first.
Moreover in the latter part of England innings, he managed to break partnerships at crucial juncture with the wickets of hard-hitting Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann. Bowling good-length deliveries paid rich dividends to the seamer on the Delhi track.
Indian captain MS Dhoni praised his efforts after the second ODI. Dhoni said, “Youngsters are doing very well in one-dayers. It is always good to win games and good to see youngsters stepping up and coming up with good performances.
“We needed a good start, Vinay (Kumar) and Praveen (Kumar) gave us that with early wickets. We never let them get a partnership together.”
The Karnataka speedster was the pick of the Indian bowlers with a career-best figure of 9-1-30-4, eclipsing his previous best of 2 for 51 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2010.
Vinay has been a highly underestimated bowler in Indian cricket with 233 first class wickets in seven years. Though included in India’s Emerging players’ squad, he never received a national call for his consistent performances for Karnataka and South Zone.
