During Virat Kohli’s book launch ‘Driven’ last year, written by journalist Vijay Lokapally, the Indian skipper had mentioned that he still gets scared of his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. Sitting amidst stalwarts like Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag and Anil Kumble, Kohli mentioned that his relationship with his childhood coach is close to his heart, “In relationships, I always look at loyalty. From 1998, I had only one coach (Rajkumar Sharma) and that’s never going to change.”

On Sunday, Kohli scored his sixth Test double-century at his home ground Feroz Shah Kotla on Day 2 against Sri Lanka. He eased past West Indies captain Brian Lara, who has 5 double-centuries to his name as captain. He also broke plethora of other records as well.

Several cricketers did react to Kohli’s class act over social media. Some Twitterati’s began the usual debate between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar again. However, his childhood coach Sharma believed it was too early to draw comparisons with the legend.

Talking to ANI, Sharma lauded Kohli’s consistency.

“Virat just concentrates on playing good cricket”

“Virat just concentrates on playing good cricket with correct techniques. He loves to win the matches for the team and wants his team to be number one in all the formats of the game. He is the most consistent batsman India has ever produced.”

“Virat is too young to be compared to Sachin Tendulkar”

“We should not compare him with Sachin. Sachin has played for the country for 24 years. Virat is too young now and we should not compare him with such a legend.”
