Virat Kohli has shades of Ricky Ponting: David Boon

Former Australian batsmen David Boon has lot to say about MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Boon will be the match-referee for the upcoming India-New Zealand series 2016 starting September 22. Boon was one of the best batsmen for Australia in his time despite not-so-athletic physique. Boon did not play like a conventional batsman. He will be closely watching the proceedings as India begin their long season against New Zealand. During New Zealand’s tour of three Tests and five ODIs,he will be closely watching Kohli and Dhoni. Kohli is ruthless and aggressive, that is why Boon compared him with Australia’s charismatic former skipper Ricky Ponting. Boon told India Today, “Maybe, it’s an opinion that there are shades of Ponting. For me it’s difficult to compare eras and players across generations. Sachin was one the best players in the world during his time, Virat is one of the best of his time. Virat is an aggressive batsman. The key for him is he can deliver in tough situations for the team and in all conditions. He scores across formats and can get runs overseas; a fantastic player.” ALSO READ: Virat Kohli is big ‘KANJOOS’, says Yuvraj Singh
Boon does not want to India to lose faith in MS Dhoni yet, he said, “It’s very dangerous to write MS Dhoni off. He is a wonderful player and been an exceptional captain for India. He is one of the best finishers in the world I have seen. It’s difficult to write him off at any stage. I am sure like many others over the years, Dhoni will know when his time is up. He deserves to go when he wants to, that’s my personal opinion. He will know when to go and will make the right decision.”
