Virat Kohli’s U-19 Rival from New Zealand Announced his Complete Retirement from Cricket

New Zealand batting all-rounder George Worker has finalised his retirement from all cricketing formats in order to take up an opportunity in an investment service firm.

George Worker, left-handed all-rounder batsman, has announced his retirement at the age of 34, in order to take up a chance to work with an investment service firm. Worker had a short and impactful time with New Zealand in international cricket during 2015-20218. His arrival in international cricket with a Player-of-the-Match performance, having a 38-ball 62 against Zimbabwe in Harare.

“After a fulfilling 17-year journey in professional cricket, I am announcing my retirement from the sport. This decision marks the end of an incredible chapter of my life and the beginning of a new adventure. Throughout the course of my career, I’ve forged some great friendships that will last a lifetime and memories I will cherish forever.” Said Worker.

“As I close this chapter, I am excited to embark on the next phase of my life with Forsyth Barr, who have offered me a fantastic opportunity. I look forward to bringing the same passion and dedication to my new role with them.” Concluded Worker.

Worker started his professional career with Central Districts and ended it with Auckland. During his international cricketing time period, Worker played 10 ODIs and 2 T20Is between 2015 and 2018, where he scored 272 and 90 runs respectively. He also won an excellent Ford Trophy in domestic circuit, as he secured 659 runs in 10 innings with an average of 82.37. He has smashed his 3 ODI fifties at home against West Indies and in Ireland in 2017, marking his career’s golden phase.

Worker earned a call against Netherlands in the ODI squad for their home series in March 2022. The call was for the reason that Mark Champan was ruled out from Covid-19. Worker unfortunately, did not get an opportunity to play in the series and he ended his career with 12 caps.

Worker made his debut for Central Districts in the 2007-08 season while also representing New Zealand at the Under-19 World Cup featuring Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee. Shockingly, he dismissed Virat Kohli when playing against India in the U-19 World Cup 2008. Overall, he scored 6721 runs with an average of 43,64 and strike rate of 79.85 with having 18 centuries and 37 fifties in 169 List A games.
