Explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag opines that off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will soon be back in the international circuit, as a good show in domestic cricket will help him gain selectors’ attention.
The right-handed opening batsman, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, cited his and Yuvraj Singh’s comebacks as example.
“When I was dropped, I played domestic cricket and came back into the side. When Yuvraj got dropped, he played domestic cricket, scored runs and came back into the side. I’m 100 per cent confident that Harbhajan will play domestic cricket and pick some wickets, and he will come back soon,” Sehwag told CNN-IBN.
Talking about his injury, Sehwag said he has recovered fully. “Right now I’m feeling good. My shoulder is fit, and I’m looking forward to this West Indies series. Hopefully, I’ll do well and the team will do well. And my job is to give a good start to the team,” he said.
The Delhi batsman backed selectors’ decision to include youngsters for the upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies.
“I think it’s good that a couple of youngsters are getting opportunity. They’ve done well against England and that’s why they got the reward, especially (Ajinkya) Rahane, (Virat) Kohli, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav, (Ravichandran) Ashwin, (Pragyan) Ojha and Rahul Sharma.”
“They’ve done well in domestic circuit, they’ve done well against England. I’m hoping and praying for them that they will do well in Test cricket also and they will keep doing well in one-day cricket,” he added.
Sehwag said it is Team India’s dream to win Test series on the Australian soil later this year.
“I’ve been to two tours of Australia and we’ve done well in certain Test matches. We haven’t won a (Test) series there. So it’s everybody’s dream to win a Test series in Australia. So hopefully, we’ll go there and try to win the series. We’ll plan according to the wickets and according to the grounds.
