Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was a terror for the bowlers during his playing days. His crunching drives through the covers, sparkling square cuts, slog sweeps, lofted hits and of course the upper-cut were a treat to watch. His glorious shots often sent chills down the bowlers’ spines. Now that he has retired from the game, he has taken a new role, where he continues to terrorise his contemporaries as well as current players, albeit on a different pitch. Yes, the ‘Nawab of Nazafgarh’ has turned into the ‘Nawab of Twitter troll’ these days, where he wishes fellow cricketers on their birthdays and other special occasions in his typical witty style.

The cricketer has gone on to develop his own genre of humour and a whole new style of wishing. The square cuts and the upper cuts from the cricket field have been replaced by ‘Sehwagism’ and ‘Viru Ka Gyaan’ on the micro blogging site, Twitter, quickly establishing him amongst the Twitterati for his hilarious posts, especially his humorous birthday wishes. The explosive former opener has set Twitter universe on fire with his funny and witty posts and soared his Twitter following by a whopping margin — to 6.73 million! But it is not just the cricketers, politicians or other sportspersons who are on Sehwag’s receiving end.

The 37-year old cricketer does not spare even the Bollywood personalities, who invariably find a mention in his tweets. Only a couple of days back had Sehwag mentioned about his dream coming true as mega stars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan gear up to work together in a Bollywood flick for the first time in their careers. And on Friday, Sehwag took to Twitter to wish another superstar Akshay Kumar on the occasion of his birthday. Sehwag referred to Akshay as a true ‘all-rounder’ for the versatility of his roles. He wrote: “#HappyBirthdayAkshayKumar The best all-rounder in Bollywood-Action bhi,Comedy bhi, drama bhi.Khel jaao @akshaykumar”

Sehwag praised Akshay’s acting abilities by calling him an all-rounder who can do action, comedy and drama with equal ease. Akshay responded to Sehwag’s tweet in his typical modest demeanour by writing:

Both Sehwag and Akshay go back a fair distance, as the latter was signed in as the brand ambassador of Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the inaugural season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Sehwag was the skipper of the Delhi franchise back then. Seems the two have forged quite a bond since then and the image used by Sehwag in his tweet suggests the same. Both can be seen wearing the DD jersey, clearly suggesting the image is from the IPL 1 days.

Both these personalities have been super successful in their respective careers, which have been illustrious to say the least. Sehwag played 104 Tests scoring 8,586 runs at an impressive average of 49.34, hitting 23 centuries and 32 half-centuries in his glorious international career spanning over 12 years. In 251 ODIs, he amassed 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05 and scored 15 hundreds apart from hitting 38 fifties. Akshay on the other hand, has been active in the film industry for over 25 years now. During this period, he has worked in around 130 Hindi films, churning out hits after hits.
