India’s explosive batter Tilak Varma caused England’s star pacer Jofra Archer look like a regular bowler during the 2nd T20I between India and England. Tilak was playing with Archer as he hit him for left right and centre shots. Right after leading the team to a 2-wicket win over England, Tilak revealed that he had a strategic approach for his playstyle.
Tilak willingly set his target on Jofra Archer, with the idea of lessening the pressure from his teammates, along with challenging the opponents at the same time.
When important players like Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya failed to perform against England’s bowling attack, Tilak Varma showed a controlled aggressive approach, which guided India to a victory.
During the post-match conference, Tilak revealed that he was strategizing tackling one of the dangerous pacers of the time. He explained that he had planned to attack the best bowlers in England lineup, with a focus on Jofra Archer. This planned approach came out successful, as Archer got 60 runs in his spell, which marks his most expensive T20I performance ever.
“I wanted to target their best bowler. If you take on the best bowler, other bowlers will be under pressure. So, when the wickets are falling (at the other end), I want to take on their best bowlers,” Tilak said in the post-match presentation.
“If I do that it makes it easier (for other batters). So, I backed myself and took chances against him and also, whatever shots that I have played against Archer, I have worked in the nets. Mentally, I was ready for them. So it has given me a good result,” he added.
