As Pakistan take on New Zealand in their tour there all eyes will be trained on Mohammad Aamer who is making his international return following the lengthy lay off due to a ban on grounds of spot-fixing. The Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has expressed faith that the youngster will put the forgettable episode behind him. Owing to the more that five years Aamer was away from competitive cricket, Younis is aware that Aamer is just a tad rusty still but is confident that he will be on top of his game in little time. Younis said ‘there’s more to come’ of Aamer. ALSO READ: New Zealand ready to take on Mohammad Aamer: Dimitri Mascarenhas
“I think there’s more to come,” Waqar said. “He’s not what you’ve probably seen five years ago but he’s definitely there and about. What we’ve seen in the recent domestic season and playing at the Bangladesh Premier League, he bowled some really quick spells. He may not be exactly there but once he’s played a few games at international level you’ll see the best of him,” added Waqar.
Younis jokingly said he hoped Aamer had re-calibrated his run up from the one that resulted in the infamous huge no-ball at Lord’s. Pakistan T20 skipper Shahid Afridi also joined in the banter and said Aamer was improving on that aspect of his game.
“Whatever’s happened has happened and I sure he is well aware of all that, we’ve got to allow him to come back, think positively as a team. He’s paid his price for what he’s done, and we are ready to take him (back),” Waqar said.
The Pakistan coach said the quickfire nature of T20 format means teams take little time to adjust. “T20 cricket doesn’t take long to get used to. We’ve seen New Zealand in the last year or so come up a real force, so we’ve got to keep indulging these youngsters and I feel this tour will be a great experience for them and they’ll learn a lot,” Waqar said.
